Broos Unconcerned by Missed European and Asian Friendlies Ahead of World Cup

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has played down concerns over South Africa’s inability to arrange friendly matches against European and Asian opposition ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Belgian tactician had initially hoped to test his side against teams from both regions as part of preparations for group-stage clashes against Mexico, the Czech Republic and South Korea. However, after negotiations failed to meet certain requirements set by potential opponents, those plans did not materialise.

According to South African-based outlet Soccer Laduma, Broos remains satisfied with South Africa’s preparations and believes the available fixtures will provide the right platform for his players to build momentum ahead of the tournament.

“You don’t always get the things you want. I am happy with the teams we are playing,” Broos said.

With their attention now turning to an upcoming encounter against Jamaica, the experienced coach believes the priority is ensuring his squad arrives at the World Cup well-prepared, confident and ready to compete on the biggest stage.
