Christy Ucheibe Leaves Benfica After Trophy-Laden Six-Year Spell
Super Falcons midfielder Christy Ucheibe has officially brought an end to her successful six-year stay at Portuguese champions Benfica, closing the curtain on one of the most decorated spells by a Nigerian footballer in the country’s history, Naijasports report.
Benfica confirmed that the Nigerian international will leave the club following the expiration of her contract on June 30, 2026. Although the Lisbon-based side offered Ucheibe a new deal, the 25-year-old has chosen to pursue a new challenge elsewhere.
The midfielder is widely expected to continue her career in Saudi Arabia, where interest in top women’s football talent has continued to grow in recent seasons.
Ucheibe departs Benfica as one of the club’s modern greats, having played a pivotal role in the most successful era in the women’s team’s history. Since joining the club in 2020, she made 179 appearances across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists.
Her time at Benfica was defined by sustained domestic dominance. Ucheibe was part of every squad that delivered the club’s remarkable run of six consecutive Liga BPI titles, establishing herself as one of the team’s most consistent and influential performers.
In addition to her league success, she helped Benfica lift two Portuguese Cups, five Portuguese League Cups and two Portuguese Super Cups, making her one of the most decorated foreign players in the club’s history.
Her consistent performances at club level also translated onto the international stage, where she became a key figure for Nigeria’s Super Falcons. Known for her composure, defensive intelligence and tireless work rate in midfield, Ucheibe has established herself as one of Africa’s leading midfielders.
As she prepares for the next chapter of her career, Ucheibe leaves Benfica with an enduring legacy. Her achievements in Portugal have cemented her place among the finest Nigerian footballers to have played in the country, while her contribution to Benfica’s golden era is unlikely to be forgotten anytime soon.
