Super Eagles Arrive Portugal for Friendly as Iwobi Joins Camp, Chukwueze Expected

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have arrived in Portugal ahead of next week’s international friendly encounter as preparations continue for their second tune-up game of the international window.

The team’s arrival in Lisbon was confirmed by Super Eagles media officer Promise Efoghe, who disclosed that 19 players and officials travelled from Poland to Portugal following Wednesday’s friendly match in Warsaw.

According to Efoghe, Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi and Genk defender Christian Akpan have now linked up with the squad in Lisbon, while AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze is expected to arrive on Friday.

He also revealed that Pisa striker Rafiu Durosinmi was excused from camp to attend to private matters.

The friendly against Portugal will be Nigeria’s second match of the international break after an entertaining 2-2 draw against Poland on Wednesday.

The Super Eagles looked set for victory in Warsaw after goals from Terem Moffi and Paul Onuachu turned the game in Nigeria’s favour. However, the hosts salvaged a draw deep into stoppage time courtesy of a stunning long-range strike.

Head coach Eric Chelle is expected to use the clash against Portugal as another opportunity to assess his squad and further build chemistry ahead of upcoming competitive fixtures.

The encounter will also provide Nigeria with a chance to gain revenge for their last meeting against the Portuguese. The two nations previously faced each other in a friendly match in Lisbon in 2022, with Portugal securing a convincing 4-0 victory.

With more players joining camp and preparations gathering momentum, the Super Eagles will be hoping to produce a stronger performance when they take on the former European champions next Wednesday.
