Brentford Promote Super Eagles Defender Benjamin Fredrick to First Team Ahead of New Season
Premier League club Brentford have officially promoted Nigerian defender Benjamin Fredrick to their first-team squad ahead of the 2026/27 season, marking a significant milestone in the youngster’s rapid development.
Fredrick, who enjoyed an impressive rise through the club’s ranks, has been rewarded with a permanent place in the senior setup after catching the attention of the coaching staff with his performances over the past year.
The Nigeria international was voted Brentford B Team’s Players’ Player of the Year last season before joining Belgian side FC Dender on loan. However, his spell in Belgium was cut short in November after he suffered a meniscus injury.
Having successfully completed his recovery, the highly-rated defender has returned to full training and is now expected to report directly to the first team for pre-season preparations as he bids to secure a regular place in the squad.
Brentford have reportedly ruled out the possibility of sending Fredrick out on loan again, signalling their confidence in his ability to contribute at senior level next season.
New head coach Keith Andrews is understood to be a strong admirer of the defender and has made it clear that Fredrick will be a permanent member of the first-team group going forward.
The promotion represents another major step in the career of the young centre-back, who has already established himself on the international stage with Nigeria. Fredrick has started each of his first eight competitive appearances for the national team, underlining the trust placed in him at both club and international level.
Currently back in Nigeria, the defender is maintaining his fitness with Simoiben Football Academy as he prepares for the start of pre-season and what could be a breakthrough campaign in the Premier League.
With Brentford placing their faith in one of Nigeria’s brightest defensive prospects, Fredrick now has the opportunity to cement his place among the club’s senior stars and continue his impressive rise in English football.
