International Friendly: Super Eagles Extend Unbeaten Run Against Poland in Thrilling Warsaw Draw

Nigeria maintained their impressive record against Poland at senior international level as goals from Terem Moffi and Paul Onuachu earned the Super Eagles a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Poland national football team in an entertaining international friendly in Warsaw on Wednesday.

Fresh from a 2-0 defeat to Ukraine national football team, the hosts began brightly and nearly made an early breakthrough when Jakub Kaminski headed narrowly wide in the fourth minute. Backed by more than 54,000 fans inside the packed PGE Narodowy, Poland pressed forward through Kaminski, Robert Lewandowski, Karol Swiderski and Piotr Zielinski in search of an opener.

Despite the hosts’ early dominance, it was Nigeria who struck first. In the 23rd minute, captain Wilfred Ndidi threaded a superb pass to Moses Simon, who squared for Moffi to tap home from close range. Although the effort was initially ruled out, a VAR review overturned the decision and awarded the goal.

Poland responded positively, with Maduka Okoye producing a fine save to deny Swiderski. The Super Eagles also threatened to double their advantage before halftime, but Tochukwu Nnadi was denied by goalkeeper Kamil Grabara.

The hosts eventually found an equaliser deep into first-half stoppage time when Kacper Potulski reacted quickest during a crowded goalmouth scramble to poke the ball past Okoye.

Nigeria emerged from the break with renewed purpose. Debutant Abdullah Bewene impressed throughout and played a key role in several attacking moves, while Raphael Onyedika and Zaidu Sanusi both went close as the visitors pushed for a second goal.

Their persistence paid off in the 76th minute when VAR awarded Nigeria a penalty. Onuachu stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to restore the Super Eagles’ lead.

Poland continued to press and were denied by another important intervention from Okoye before eventually finding a late equaliser. With eight minutes remaining, defender Przemyslaw Wisniewski unleashed a powerful strike from 25 yards that flew beyond the Nigerian goalkeeper, ensuring the contest ended all square.

The result extends Nigeria’s unbeaten run against Poland to 12 matches and provides further encouragement ahead of their next international friendly against Portugal national football team in Leiria next Wednesday. The encounter will serve as Portugal’s final preparation match before the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
