Nigeria female basketball team’s (D’Tigress) Head Coach Rena Wakama has been named Best Coach of the tournament after guiding her team to an historic Olympic outing.
The 32 years old who previously won the African Basketball championship in 2023 guided D’Tigress to the quarter final of the Olympics the first by an African team male of female defeating top ranked teams in the process.
Entering the tournament as an underdog,Rena Wakama masterminded an upset and do the impossible when Nigeria defeated Australia (3) 75-62 and Canada (5) 79-70 to set up a quarter final meeting with defending champion USA(1),a match they loss 76-88 but produce a masterclass performance worthy of a true champion.
Wakama who is also the first female Basketball coach to win an African Basketball championship since 1966 was deservedly named best coach in Paris.
The only Positive Nigeria can take away from Paris is Coach Rena Wakama’s achievement with D’Tigress.
