A total of 88 Athletes represented Nigeria in the just concluded Paris 2024 Olympics across 12 different sport none of whom were able to win a medal for the country.

However, athletes of Nigerian origin did their country of representation proud by winning medals and writing their names in the history of Olympics medals winners. Lets take a look at their achivement;

ANNETTE ECHIKUNWOKE: Anette who was close to representing Nigeria at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics but was ruled ineligible due to the incompetence of Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) to register her name in due time switched allegiance to the United States and won a silver medal in the hammer throw, the first American woman to win a medal in the sport.

YEMISI OGUNLEYE: She was born in Germany to a European mother and a Nigerian father.She also won gold for the country of her birth in shotput at the tournament.

SAMUEL OMORODION: Omorodion also of Nigerian descent was part of the Spanish team that won the gold medal in the men’s football tournament. The striker who recently joined Chelsea FC of England from Atletico Madrid miseed the final match to complete the move.

SALWA EID NASER: The Nigerian-born athlete who represented Bahrain in the 400m women’s event at the Olympics and won a silver medal was formerly known as Ebelechukwu Agbapuonwu. She performed at the 2013 National Youth Games in Ilorin representing her state of Origin.
