Director General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, has stated that all match bonuses due to the Super Falcons from the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) have been fully paid.
Olopade, speaking to Arise News, clarified that Falcons’ captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, never claimed otherwise, and urged against misrepresenting her statements. “We should not place this young woman in a position where she must deny or confirm a statement she never made, especially when the funds are already in their accounts,” he said.
However, Ajibade revealed in the same interview that the team is still awaiting the rewards promised by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their WAFCON triumph — specifically, a three-bedroom apartment and the naira equivalent of $100,000 per player. These commitments, publicly announced by the president, have yet to be fulfilled.
