NPFL Still Among Africa Best Despite CHAN Setback

Former Super Eagles coach, Salisu Yusuf, has defended the reputation of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), describing it as one of the best on the continent despite Nigeria’s disappointing performance at the recent African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Tanzania.
In an interview with Completesports on Wednesday night, Yusuf dismissed suggestions that the CHAN outing was a true reflection of the league’s quality. He pointed instead to inadequate preparation as a major factor behind the team’s struggles.
> “No, not at all. The Eagles’ performance in the CHAN in Tanzania shouldn’t be seen as a reflection of the quality of the NPFL,” Yusuf said. “The NPFL is a top league, one of the best in Africa. That the Super Eagles didn’t do well in the CHAN tournament should not be used to rubbish the Nigeria Premier Football League.”
The tactician stressed that the success of any team depends largely on its organisation and the quality of coaching input.
> “A team is as good as its organisation,” he added. “Was the team well set up or organised? These are the questions that should be asked and answered.”
Yusuf’s remarks come amid ongoing debates about the NPFL’s standing in African football, with many stakeholders calling for improved structures and better preparation ahead of international tournaments
