The Super Eagles of Nigeria are poised to get a new head coach ahead of the 2025 Natios cup qualifier.
In a twist by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to soon announce a candidate not part of the earlier shortlisted list consisting of (Herve Renard, Eric Chelle, Tom Saintfiet, Steve McClaren).
Reports says The NFF leadership has on its own been talking with another coach and that is the one who will be appointed.The NFF technical committee met in Abuja Thursday and they screened and endorsed the mystery man who will soon be named coach of the Super Eagles in time for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda early next month.
Reports reaching us at Naijasports is that the mystery man could be former head coach Augustine Eguavoen.
Augustine Eguavoen who has previously managed the Super Eagles in 2005 and 2010 was appointed the team’s Technical Director in October 2020,and also took interim charge in December 2021 to take Nigeria to the nations cup following the departure of Gernot Rhor. He then return to his position of Technical Director after Nigeria was eliminated in the round of sixteen.
The new coach will take charge of the Super Eagles as they begin their quest for a place at AFCON 2025 with an home game against neighbors Benin Republic on Saturday, September 7 and travel three days later to take on the Amavubi of Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
