The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially announced Eric Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles. The former Mali international expressed gratitude for the opportunity, highlighting the privilege of leading one of Africa’s most renowned national teams.

“I want to thank my agent, the NFF, the NSC, and indeed all Nigerians for this big opportunity. Coaching the Super Eagles of Nigeria is an amazing job, and I do not take this appointment for granted. I am elated and will do my utmost best,” Chelle stated.

Chelle emphasized his commitment to an attacking style of football, which he believes aligns with the aspirations of Nigerians. “Football is about scoring goals, so I favour an attacking style. I know the expectations of Nigerians and will work diligently with my assistants towards the goal of qualifying the Super Eagles to the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” he added.

Contract Details

The NFF confirmed Chelle’s appointment is a two-year contract with an option to extend for an additional year, contingent on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. As part of his role, Chelle will work with three assistants while collaborating with the existing technical crew to elevate the Super Eagles’ brand.

In addition to his primary duties with the senior team, Chelle will supervise the Super Eagles B team as they prepare for the 8th African Nations Championship, ensuring cohesion and strategic alignment across all levels.
